Let's Play A Blood Game

Hmm.. No, I swear I am not some sort of sick weirdo.. The title is a play on two things.. One will be explained in this post.. The other I want to see if anyone can figure it out.. Leave me a comment if you think you know what the other 'thing' with the title is!!

So, as I said yesteryear, I was extremely excited that my idea has been used for PHD's Challenge, naturally I had to get my entry done!

Looking back, there are a few things I would have done differently, but in a way I am glad I went with the method I did.. TBH when you're looking at these bad boys in real life, they look pretty awesome.. I tried to capture that awesomeness in photos, but sometimes it just gets lost in translation!

Oh hello 'Blood Game' reference numbero uno! The book cover I chose is Iris Johansen's Blood Game. The whole time I was reading this book (small book, but it was horrible, took me forever to finish!) I kept thinking about how the spider web looked like CG OMG and how fun it would be to recreate this on my nails. And it was a lot of fun!

You can sort of see more of the background colour work in this photo. At first I had painted my nails and kept going around in a darker colour to match the book cover.. But I didn't like it! So I grabbed my trusty sponge and used CG Liquid Leather. It actually looked pretty good because I find LL isn't opaque until the second coat (at least!) so all the colouring underneath was still visible. Then, in the center, it is supposed to be more red.. That being said, I grabbed Essie Lollipop and put a dab of it on the middle of each nail, then lightly sponged it around. Like I said, it is somewhat noticeable on here, but irl, it looks rad!

Shortnails had asked me a question about how I wear my fake nails when I paint them up for a contest/challenge.. And I will show you what I do! Like you said, gluing them on would be pretty detrimental for my sweet lil nails.. So I turn to Craft Tack, or as I fondly call it, 'sticky tack'. I place bits on each of my nails, then just press the fake nails on to it.

Then, when I am all done taking photos, they are easy to take off.. And if any remnants of the sticky tack is left on the nail, you can just roll another piece over and everything is cleaned off. Much safer than gluing the nails on for some photos. Fake nails aren't really my thing.. But sometimes for a contest/challenge, I find working with them much better.. That way if I am already sporting a mani or it just isn't something that I wouldn't want to wear out, I don't have to. Plus I don't have to paint and remove polish an extra time! Woo!

And meet my newest additions to the polish collection. Lined up here is CG Secret Peri-Wink-Le, CG Flip Flop Fantasy, Claire's MOOD Peaceful and Confident, Claire's MOOD Fabulous and Funky & SH HIDDEN TREASURE!!!!!

Last night I went to the 24 hour Shoppers Drug Mart as I needed to find jello (I am on this liquid diet prep deal.. it is terrible.. and I needed to get jello as it is the only other thing I can eat.. bleh) But of course I have to take a swing down the cosmetics area.. I was actually looking to get that new Maybelline Falsies mascara, but I convinced myself to put it down as I recently bought that Revlon mascara that Jessica Biel is hawking. Really I shouldn't play the mascara game anymore as I found one I love.. But I'm a sucker for false advertising! ANYWAYS! As I was strolling down the section I was like 'oh, a stand of Sally Henson Complete Salon Manicure polishes.. That is nice because they aren't bringing Hid-WHAT?!' There, 1 foot in front of me sparkled that flaky little bad boy! I seriously thought it was a mirage.. Then I reached out and touched it.. Almost sobbed. I literally had to tell myself to not do a tap dance right there. It was just so rewarding!

I will have to go paint my nails soon.. I cannot WAIT to test it out.. Finally!!

I hope everyone is having a terrific Tuesday! I am just idly waiting for tomorrow.. Yeah.. I'm a Twi-Hard (:

  • ThRiSzHa - Thankies (:
  • DesertNails8 - Haha - now that is awesome!! See, I don't usually have a problem with it.. I just wish that he would have carded my brother as well. Not that I am complaining about looking child like.. It makes up for my childhood years when everyone thought I was 18 when I was 11!
  • shortnails - I hope my explanation in the post makes sense.. If it doesn't, let me know!! IT is pretty freaky. Watching it now it does still bother me slightly.. Maybe because I watched it at such a young age? IT and The Exorcist 3 are movies that still give me chills at certain parts.. And yet I love horror films (: OH! But your clown nose is adorbs! So that is just fine by me!!

Clown Pants

Now, I am not saying that the mani I am about to post actually looks exactly like clown pants.. But it is all I could think of. Plus, for some unknown reason, I decided that watching 'IT' at 1:00am was a good idea. Especially when I am terrified of clowns.. and dolls.. Well, actually, dolls just creep me out.. (side story: I was working a managing shift the other night and a few ladies were waiting for another lady.. But she wouldn't answer her phone or her door.. So I went up to her room, knocked, no answer.. Had to use my keys to get in.. I am happy to report that no one was home (glad she wasn't injured, etc) BUT! Her room was filled with dolls.. Like.. Hundreds of creepster dolls watching my every move. That is nightmare material right there!!)

Oh!! And I am extremely excited for the PHD challenge this week!! I actually submitted the idea and she used it (: suuuuuper rad! You should probably just check it out.. by clicking on PHD of course (:

I am currently working on my entry right now.. But.. I seem to have some serious sniffling action going on.. And I'm going in for surgery on the 12th.. I cannot be sick! Bleeeeh!

I hope everyone is having a solid start to the week! Thus far I am..

Ok, one more story.. Well.. Last night I went to the casino with the parents and my brother decided to come as well - which was rad. I always put my purse and wallet in the trunk because I think everyone wants to steal my purse and I just don't think that is nice.. This way my babies (my cellphone and ipod touch..I don't bring my pets with me..) and all misc. items are safe (unless someone steals the car..) This also means my ID, which is in my wallet, which is in my purse, is in the trunk.. But I haven't been ID'd since I turned 24 and have NEVER been ID'd at the casino. My brother, who is fours years younger, just strolls in. The guard at the door was like 'ID miss?' and I said 'are you kidding me?' his response was a steely glare. I had to take the keys.. Go back out to the car.. Get my ID and return. When I was coming in he looks at my ID and gives me a lecture about always having my ID on me, blahblahblah.. All I said was 'yeah, but I'm 24' and strutted in. I mean, not going to lie, it is nice to think that I look like a child.. But really? And my brother didn't even get ID'd! Grrr!! But roulette was good to us. I think I mentioned before I get 25% of the winnings.. I walked out with $450 last night.. Take that security guard! (:

  • Tierney - Yay! I am glad I can make someone laugh with my stories!! I am glad you got to keep two, although I imagine the choosing process was difficult!! Thank you.. I actually did get a bunch of compliments on them despite how horrid I thought they were!! You should give it a whirl, I mean, tis the season for lightning storms!!

When Lightning Strikes

It is sometimes really unimpressive.. Sort of like the look I am about to post.

I saw this on a Sophy Robson post and I have been wanting to try it out forEVER! I decided to finally give it a go yesterday. I don't necessarily hate it, but I don't really like what I did either. I was really tempted to take it all off and do something different.. But.. Whatever. I decided to give it a day or two on my nails. I have a bunch of cleaning to do tomorrow, so it can come off at that point in time. PLUS, when I was scoping out her website, I saw something extremely amazing that I want to do now.. And it is really simple.. So you will probably get three posts out of me this week - hooray!

I also apologize about the somber post from yesterday. I just really felt the need to type out that experience. I am just stressed from that and something else that is going on in my life. A HUGE change. Should be interesting (:

Anyways! On to the nailage!

See that terribad lightning bolt.. It should be way thinner at the tip. Blergh! Ahh well!!

I used CG Liquid Leather, OPI Jade Is The New Black & SH Insta-Dri in Lightening.. That 'e' is really making me mad in their polish name.

Oh, and last night I did go out to the casino with the parents (yeah, I'm rad!).. Playing roulette with the dad.. It is pretty awesome. He puts up the money, and if we make a profit.. I get 25%.. I have played roulette 3 times now.. and have come out with $664.. Not that I am bragging, I just find it awesome because I am saving money like a beast because I have to take 6 weeks off from work starting mid-July.. And this is really, really, really going to help me out!! I know gambling isn't a great way to make money (believe me, it is a battle!) but it is nice when you take a chance and can walk out with some swagger!

OH! Also.. 100 followers! GUH?! I showed my brother last night that I had 99 followers, and he was pretty impressed. Now, my brother is like a youtube guru, so I told him that I had tried to make a video tutorial before for one of the manis I did, but of course the video didn't upload properly. He told me that if I ever want a video made up, he will happily help me out.. So expect a video tutorial soon! I think I am ready for that.. Even if it is just via photos for now (I will have to get a tripod for the camera or something before I can do a full out video!) I also think I will have to cap off a number so that I can collect goodies for a giveaway of sorts. Should be fun!!

Take care everyone.. I leave you with a photo of Bennie that I just took. He is finally starting to trust me again. Like I said, he has been acting weird.. Probably because he lost his mate/pal.. He was perched in my hand and his mitt made me laugh hysterically. Plus, he really wanted to steal my camera!

  • Tierney - Thank you doll! *hugs back* I basically feel like someone died.. I would probably have freaked out if the pet store sold me TWO pregnant guinea pigs!! I do, however, know what it is like to have a surprise pregnant animal. The one night my sister was going to feed the rabbits (we had two, a male and a female - separate cages) and we were all down in the basement chatting as a family.. And we see my sister slowly back away from Nixy (girls) cage.. She had five little babies nesting in there. Later we found out that my mother let the two out together and that they 'didn't DO anything'.. Surrre mom! We conned my parents into letting us keep them all. - What did you do with the babies? Did you get to keep them, a few of them, one of them or did you have to sell them/give them away? And thank you about the nails.. I adore polka dots as well!!
  • jaljen - Oh, I know the pain of their bites! Bennie (and Jet) were more like nibblers.. Then they learned that we were their pals so they never did bite us hard. The last few days though, Bennie has become a biter. He has stopped now and is beginning to perch on my hands. Last night he fell asleep cupped in my hands! I am always freaked about them escaping.. You turn away for a moment and they are gone! Little rascals! Yes, sorrow and joy about sums all pet ownership up! Thank you.. I liked the name as well, just didn't mean for it to be that sad!!
  • AggiePigeon - She really was.. It is still weird to say 'she'.. And I love the conversion to Jetta! Adorable.. If she was still here, I would totally use that!!

Stormy With A Chance Of Polka Dots

Now, before I get into my sob story of a post, I just want to say a ginormous HELLO!!!!!! to all the new followers. I go to bed with 80 some and return to 95! 95? Seriously?! I cannot believe it. I was seriously pumped when I first started (it has been over a year now) and had 1 person following me - it made it all worth it to me. I want all of you to know that I cherish your taking a look at my blog and liking it enough to stay on board.. Also, I have been receiving comments on old posts (I try to address all comments on previous entries on the next entry.. I may have to look in to answering comments no matter when they show up.. anyways..) so, for those comments on 'older' posts, I appreciate your comments and look and smile at each and every one! You're all dolls. Thank you!

Now on to my story then a quick glance my nails.. I will apologize in advance. I worked two shifts before I photographed the nails. My weekend was busy with work, errands, going to the casino and being depressed. Why the depression? I am sure some of you will remember pictures of my babies (aka the degus aka Bennie and Jet).. Anyways.. I had noticed the past month and a bit that Jet had gained a lot of weight. Not that I am complaining, HE looks adorable no matter what.. But I had to be a bit worried because degus are prone to diabetes and I really do not want that for HIM. My sister and I had them running the stairs the other night (that is Jet's favourite form of exercise) and he had scrambled on to my hand and sat there.. I picked him up and was rubbing HIS belly when I felt this little bump.. I was like 'did big bad Ben bite you?!' as Bennie is the dominant male in this pairing. I am not sure what inclined me to do so, but I felt higher up and there was another bump.. and two others on the other side. Yeah, nipples.. On a "male".

I freaked out!! I immediately went online and looked up the difference in male and female private parts for degus. While just glancing they look the same.. They are not. Jet isn't a HE after all. HE is a SHE! And SHE is pregnant.. Sadly, it says that they can just keep having babies immediately after giving birth, and then complications can arise.. Basically disaster. I had to do something that I never wanted to do. I had to surrender her back to the pet store I got her from. (hah.. what a nerd.. I am now crying while writing this..) the people at the pet store probably thought I was the largest oaf ever. I was basically bawling in the store while filling out paper. They were jerks a bit as well. They were the ones that told us we had two males.. It was their mistake and now I am paying for it by not having Jet here anymore.

Despite the fact that they should always be kept in pairs, they told me that we can keep Bennie, which is nice.. But it makes me sad. He is acting so strangely now and it breaks my heart.. We have only had them since December and we grew that attached.. Ok, I am going to stop typing this out.. It hurts too much.. Plus who wants to read a novel on my polish blog eh?

The reason I have shared this story is because it explains my nails. I wanted something that was sad and depressing yet happy (re: I am sad and depressed to not have Jet, yet happy because we still have Bennie), I found something in my inspiration folder that was a bit of both.. So 'Stormy With A Chance Of Polka Dots' was born..

Again, sorry for the terribad photo. I did crop out my index finger though as it was chipped beyond recognition.. I used OPI Elephantastic Pink and Orly Mirror Mirror.

Hopefully something good will become of this evening.. I think my dad wants to go play roulette this evening. Maybe we'll win big or something.. I spose I should consider doing my nails soon here.. Oh, I also snipped them all off again the other night.. Anytime I deal with sadness, I like to 'start' over. Be it my room (which is sparkling clean and super organized right now.. after I had to take Jet in..) or my nails.. Le sigh.

Oh, I also said last post I would toss up a photo of the sponge I used for the Peachy Keen look..

Alright, I am done now. Sorry for the novel! I hope everyone is having a better start to their week then the ending to mine!

Analogous Nails

Polish Hoarder Disorder (PHD) posted up the Analogous Color Challenge, so of course I had to accept it! (It was extremely difficult to not add a 'u' to colour)

And of course I chose the Yellow, Green-Yellow and Green spectrum.

I am not sure whether I have mentioned it before or not, but I work at a retirement home (as well as my sister) and the residents always enjoy seeing what we have done with our nails. There is one table of ladies in particular that always give input and I think once they started making a big fuss about our nails, everyone else has to grab our hands to see them. Sometimes it makes serving take longer, but I don't mind. Sometimes they even give me ideas.

Now, why am I giving you this background information you ask? Well, yesterday while I was serving, the ladies at aforementioned table of course all had to get a closer look. Then one of the ladies, really loudly, said: 'those green nails are hideous!'. Now, usually she isn't so blunt.. So I was like 'Awwwe -insert name here-, you don't like them?' then she said 'oh no, I like them, I just hate green!' - It just goes to show that while some people favour a colour, others really hate it.. Anyways.. Random story.

I hope everyone is having an excellent week thus far! I need to kill a few hours before I hang out with a friend.. We're going to go look at cell phones then have ice cream. Sounds like a solid evening! I may just return home with an iphone.. Depending on monthly costs and such. We shall see! Oh! Plus it is in the mall.. Maybe I can sneak in to Claire's and find me some of those mood polishes.. Oh the possibilities!!

  • AggiePigeon - I did a little reading on the Orly creme you speak of.. I kind of like the sounds of it.. Plus I kind of heart the brand! Thank you for tossing out that suggestion, I think I might just have to order it!! And I agree, it is a lovely colour!!
  • nailsss - Haha! I totally agree! It really does! I actually did get a ton of compliments on this one. And lots of random people grabbing my hands to look/touch my nails.
  • Lily nail - Thank you very much (:
  • shortnails - It is just a little yellowy-orange sponge I picked up from Michaels in a sponge variety pack (ha!) I will try to remember to snap a photo of it next time.. You could totally cut the cotton balls in half - I did! I just put on enough remover to cover my nail.. I know it does seem like a waste, but, I would imagine that you wouldn't be wearing glitter nails ALL the time.. Right? So that way if it is only once in awhile it isn't so bad.. I figure it usually takes me 10+ cotton balls to finish the job using elbow grease, I might as well toss in some tin foil for good measure (:

Peachy Pink

I finally got around to using my CG Peachy Keen polish.. It has been sitting in my untried drawer for a few moments in time..

I started off by painting my nails with it and just figured I would decide what to do after painting it on.. And omigosh! What a colour!! I didn't think it would be so.. bright? I figured it would be a touch more brilliant than CG II, but it is totally different! I actually kind of love this polish..

Once it was dry-ish (I am not a patient person when it comes to drying time on polish), I decided try and gradient pinks.. I used this Essence gem that I got in the Elfster Secret Santa exchange.. And I notice it when I look at my nails, but it was very faint, so instead of work on the gradient effect, I just grabbed a sponge and sponged on OPI Elephantastic Pink. I actually really enjoy this subtle yet in-yo-face look! It is perfect for summer.. Now if we could only begin summer here..

Now a question.. I do believe I have reached a plateau with my cuticle cream. It just doesn't seem to be doing as well as it once did.. Here in lies the question.. What cuticle creams do you use/like/have heard good things about.. I have read quite a bit on the Lush cuticle cream.. And according to friends we actually have one here situated in a mall.. I could venture out and get it.. But of course I want to check with the polish crowd first. Lemme know!

I hope everyone is having a terrific Thursday and will continue to have a wonderful week!!

  • Tierney - Thankies doll! And I am seriously not worried about when it gets sent out.. I just know that one of these days I will have it in my possession and all will be well! I picked up a 'thing' or two for you, so hopefully I will get those gems shipped out asap as well!!
  • ThRiSzHa - Thank you (: you flatterer you (: Actually, this works out well because I always love the creations you post!!
  • shortnails - Actually, I stuck fake nails on to my nails.. Only because I knew I would be using large amounts of glitter and I did not want to cry during removal - heh! BUT! Awhile back, on a blog somewhere out there.. They posted about the 'foil method' for removing glitter polishes. You put your polish remover on cotton balls, apply said cotton balls to the nail, then wrap the fingertip in tin foil and let sit for a couple of minutes. Afterwards, you just take off the tinfoil and the polish should basically all be removed. I did use this method and it seriously works! I think there were two nails that I had to 'scrub' for a swipe or two. So much better then taking an hour to remove manually!!

Bling Challenge Entry

Hello everyone! I made it home safely.. And, while I had an amazing weekend at the lake, I am always glad to return home. I passed out last night before 11 and didn't wake up til noon - and I'm not really one for sleeping! Insanity! I think it was because I got too much sun yesterday. We went for a little walk (maybe 20 mins yesterday) around another part of the lake (with ice cream, yay!) and I got burnt. Silly albino-esque skin tone!!

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend as well!

Speaking of being away.. I leave at 66 followers and return to 76? For serious?! Awesome! Welcome to all the new comers (: I hope I don't bore you to death!

I was thinking of having a giveaway at 88 (fav number) but everyone 'snuck' up on me! We'll see, I will have to start compiling stuff soon!!

I decided to be a part of Polish Hoarder Disorder's Bling challenge. I was pretty pumped about my entry! I loved every entry.. I went extreme and made a look that I would actually NOT wear in public - and there is very little that I would not wear on my nails - super fun!!

This is my entry. So glittery and crazy!

I will probably have another post ready either later today or tomorrow. My nails didn't get too damaged at the lake, but still, some chipping and it is not making me too happy!! I will do this cleaning business and laundry, then work on myself!

Oh, and more aloe vera is needed - ouch!!

  • jaljen - La-Lique is extremely amusing to me! I might just have to use that!! They always make me nervous, but at least they finally listen to me when I say 'take the blood from my hand!'.. Although this time the bruise covered the back of my hand. I kind of looked like I was turning into a zombie - it was slightly rad! Thankies (:
  • April - Thank you (:
  • ThRiSzHa - Thank you as well (:

Here I Go Again

On my own!! Going down the only road I've ever known.. Like a drifter I was born to walk alone.. But I've made up my mind.. I ain't wasting no more time!! Umm.. Sorry.. This song is by Whitesnake and I seriously have had this song on repeat in my brain. I have been singing it like crazy too.. Last night while gaming I was singing it as well.. My brother had his mic on.. So the 'boys' laughed at me.. Good times!!

Sorry if I go off track a smidge in this post.. I had blood taken about an hour ago.. And I'm jittery from it! Sadly I have problematic veins in my arms aka they do not want people to take blood from them.. So they have to take from my hand.. And then I get the shakes and my hand becomes weak for the day.. And bruises.. Yay!

Yesterday I rushed through doing my nails because I was going to go out for supper and then shop for supplies with my friend before our weekend escape (T - 5 hours! Woo!) BUT! Thinking back, it was waaay better to do them yesterday because my hand will be too shakey today. What a thinker I am.. Either that or I can work my way out of any situation.. Anyways!!

First two photos are mine.. w/o and with flash. Third photo is the inspiration picture. I realize that it should be more of a teal colour and a darker purple in there.. But I switched it up a bit!!

I used: OPI What's With The Cattitude?, OPI Jade Is The New Black, Essie Mesmerize, OPI No Room For The Blues, OPI A Grape Fit! & CG Liquid Leather.

This was actually a lot of fun to do! I thought I would be getting all angry and do a shotty job, but I don't think it is too bad!!

I have so many "inspiration" photos from these nail art magazines, yet none of them just make me want to do my nails.. Hopefully this weekend away will recharge my copying skills and I'll be ready to start power-housing through these magazines!!

Also, I need a name for these gems! I usually name my photos before I slap them into MY nail folder.. Yet I have no witty/lame/fun name for these bad boys - any suggestions?

Anyways, I hope everyone has a RAD weekend! I will try to be doing the same (:

Rainbow French

Inspired by Sophy Robson. I have actually been thinking about doing this nail look for awhile - just from glancing at the photo of it.. Then I checked her website/blog last night and saw the tutorial was up!

I could have done more justice on this look, but of course I have to try and do my nails before I go out to run errands aka I rushed it!

Which isn't totally terribad.. I just need to have it on for today.. Tomorrow for work.. And if it can hold out until Thursday evening, I will be pleased! I don't have too much luck with longevity of 'French' manicures though..

The one thing I do really like about it? It screams SUMMER in your face!! I also think I need a lighter purple shade..

What was used - Rainbow Lineup picture order: Essie Lollipop, CG Breakin', Orly Sol Cabana, CG Lemon Fizz, OPI Green-Wich Village, OPI Gargantuan Green Grape, Essie Mesmerize, OPI What's With The Cattitude?, Opi Purple With A Purpose & OPI A Grape Fit!

I hope everyone is having a terrific Tuesday and will have a wonderful week! I will try to post up again before I leave for the weekend.. A weekend off again? I feel faint..

Oh, and I suppose I should answer some comments.. It has been awhile!!
