Lightning Nails

I had repinned this photo of lightning nails a little while back, and I went to the watermarked source on tumblr and just found a wealth of nail art ideas - so yay!

I just took the idea and sort of went my own way.. I really like them as I look at them right here, right now, in front of me - but for some reason the photo does not give me the same 'oooh, must ogle!' effect. Oh well!

I am also sorry about the bit of wear on the thumb - it has been a crazy weekend and I didn't take photos until this morning. Whoops!

I used: a base of Orly Liquid Vinyl, then I sponged on a mix of Orly White Out, OPI A Grape Fit!, and OPI Kiss Me On My Tulips (still hilarious) - then I used Orly White Out again for the bolts.

I hope everyone has had a tremendous weekend! I know that I did - and now I'm extremely tired out - bring on the work week! (Not really though.. can we just fast forward to next weekend please?)

Review & Swatch: Rainbow Honey - The Equestria Collection Pt.2

Sorry everyone - I got a day behind on this post.. Just too many activities going on right meow! I do apologize for the delay, but I promise these are gems, so it makes up for the wait!

You can check out part 1 of this collection by clicking here.

Now on to the four remaining polish in this set..

We have: the element of magic, hoof wrassle, the worst possible thing, and Mare of the Moon.

As before, the swatching is:

Pinky = 1 coat of polish
Ring = 2 coats of polish
Middle = 3 coats of polish
Index = 1 coat of polish over a base
Thumb = 2 coats of polish over a base

And here we go..

the element of magic - "Inspired by Twilight Sparkle. Several shades of purple and pink glitter, some holographic, some iridescent, and a sprinkling of fairy dust all in a shimmery purple base with a magical blue shift."

hoof wrassle - "Inspired by Applejack. A shimmery copper orange base studded with gold, copper, and orange hex and square glitter, and a sprinkling of iridescent and holographic glitters - this polish loves to sparkle in the sun."

I actually think this might be my favourite of the bunch.. I love them all, but there is just something about this orange gem.. Me and my strange love of orange polish.

the worst possible thing - "Inspired by Rarity. A sheer layering polish, jewel encrusted just as Rarity would endorse, shimmering with opalescent flakes in purple and blue and a multitude of holographic and iridescent glitters."

If I didn't love hoof wrassle as much as I do, I would have to say that this is my favourite.. It almost seemed 3D-esque, and I, of course, thoroughly enjoy that!

Mare of the Moon - "Inspired by Princess Luna. A deep and mysterious indigo polish with a violet color shift and a sprinkling of silver moon crescents and holographic glitters."

This polish is extremely beautiful - and I especially love the crescent glitter - and, just based on looking at all the polish alone, I would have said 'that will be my fave!' I would have been so wrong.

Now, I may not be one for a wealth of glitter polish.. As I would prefer to do some nail art-y stuff instead, I am absolutely smitten with this collection! I can see myself finding some use for each and every one of these gems..

I'd say if you're a fan of glitter polish - get the set - and if you're not a huge fan of glitter polish.. I think you still would have to pick up this set and just test it out for yourself, I bet you find a use for them!

Now that I'm aware of Rainbow Honey, you can be sure that I will be watching for more awesome sets like this one.. And that is really, really, awesome!

Review & Swatch: Rainbow Honey - The Equestria Collection Pt. 1

I figured it was finally time for me to attempt to start doing some swatch and review type posts.. My untried stash is starting to get out of control! I for see this as a way to help with that.. Hopefully? Anyways!

I feel that I have something SUPER AWESOME to share with you all today.. A friend (Hi Collette! - if you read this) had posted something about this brand in our birthday group.. Of course I had to go and see what she was talking about.. I was basically blown away - this collection looked amazing - and I'm a complete impulse buyer, so I immediately ordered the full collection, in minis. That was, what I feel, a mistake.

These gems arrived to me today. Ok, first off.. I have to say, I am kind of impressed with the packaging - I have yet to come across any company that does this.. Each polish was in its own little labelled box - and the box has a heart cutout to display the polish. I legitimately heard my heart gasp with delight. Seriously.

Also included is a really nice "flyer" with information about the collection.. and this is no thrown together piece of work.. This is nicely printed out.. I am a sucker for little details like the packaging and this pamphlet - A+ for sure!

Another thing I get good vibes off of - the founder and chief designer is named 'Dee'. Are you feeling the vibes of goodness?? It also says that "Dee has drawn her inspirations from 1990's video games, Japanese festivals, and kids' TV shows." You had me at 1990's video games.

Ok, I could make a whole post about this pamphlet alone, so allow me to start sharing some of the collection with you.

Please note the aforementioned packaging.. Le sigh.

I decided to swatch these in the order that the pamphlet has them in.. So up first we have Celestia - "Inspired by Princess Celestia. A sheer, sky blue polish filled with bursts [of] multichromatic shimmer and opalescent flakes, turning every color into something new."

For all the swatches you will see, I followed a specific routine:
Pinky = 1 coat
Ring = 2 coats
Middle = 3 coats
Index = 1 coat over a base
Thumb = 2 coats over a base

Celestia was based over OPI What's With The Cattitude?

Here we have A Little Kindness - "Inspired by Fluttershy/ Rose, white, gold, and soft green glitters float in a delicate and soft yellow base with an iridescent pink shimmer."

I immediately thought about a gold base (Orly Glitz) when I first start applying to my pinky.. It kind of doesn't do this shade justice.. Must try over a safe colour - like black!

Here is Pinkie Promise - "Inspired by Pinkie Pie. A fun and shimmery pink base filled with hex and tinsel glitter in magenta, light blue, and gold - this polish calls for a party!"

Of the four that I have swatched today.. This was hands down my favourite! I feel it would build up nicely on its own by coat 5.. But over that pink (China Glaze Sugar High) it really comes alive.. It really is a party-tastic polish and I am very in like with it!

Lastly, we have 20% Cooler - "Inspired by Rainbow Dash, a shimmery and sheer light blue base with a veritable rainbow of glitter that promises to make any old manicure at least 20% Cooler."

I feel like this polish is the one I have heard the most about.. Yet, as of right now, it is the one I like the least? And I mean, I like all that I have worked with today (err.. yesterday.. when you're reading this today.. make sense?) I think I should have paired it with What's With The Cattitude as well and it would probably be muchos more amazing.. Actually, it would be 20% Cooler! Groan.

I will have four more to share with you tomorrow.. I am not even going to lie.. I wish I was legitimately not feeling well so I could stay home from work and get these all swatched up.. But sadly I'm feeling good - dangit (:

You can check out these at rainbowhoney.com - and I think I can already suggest picking these gems up! I recently acquired some jelly polish and I feel like these would make a jelly sandwich even better! See you all again tomorrow!

Lush Lacquer Birthday Cake

Today I have a little "swatch" to share with you all.. That and at least it is something to post - right?

I have been on a bit of an 'indie polish' kick lately.. I haven't even been paying any attention to.. name brands? lately.. I have a wealth of new babies coming soon.. So I figure I should actually start sharing them!

I ordered from Lush Lacquer mostly because of my birthday group - July's lady said she doesn't own any indie polish, so I scoured Etsy, looking at so many pretty polish.. Then I stumbled on Lush Lacquer.. Awesome! I ordered a couple of me and a couple for her.. And now I am going to share one of the couple with all of you!

This polish actually does remind me of those "funfetti" kind of cakes.. I love it! This was also just two cots of the polish - I didn't even put a base. I figure though, if I did put some white underneath, it might make the polish pop more - but I feel like it does a great job all on its own..

You can check out more of the awesome polish at lushlacquer.etsy.com - and their shipping to Canada is very reasonable!

And remember you still have a little bit longer to enter my Sticks 'n Stones giveaway! I am off to the lake after work today - I hope everyone has awesome plans for the weekend as well.. Or at least enjoys themselves (:

Talk to you all again soon!!

So I did.

SO! While I say this is to celebrate both of these marvelous things, I still want to have a more.. substantial giveaway at some point.. I'm already collecting.. But this gem is sitting in my drawer and it needs a good home!

Retro Nails

Honestly, all I can think of when I look at these nails is the era of my favourite music: the 80s. That makes me feel that calling these "retro nails" is fitting. Go with it, ok?

My lines are very shaky on these bad boys.. I blame it on the fact that I did these at 2 in the morning (Saturday) AND Big Brother after dark is suddenly on a channel available to me.. And I hadn't watched the premiere episode yet.. and I wanted to see the 4 returners.. And I was angry that Brittany was one of them.. Then I was okay because Janelle is back.. So you see.. I was distracted!!

I got the idea from this PHOTO I had seen via tumblr.. I wish my lines were more crisp, but when I'm not studying my picture of them, we're good - and I quite like them!

Also, I owe an apology! Apparently my blog has been giving malware warnings? I had no idea until it was brought to my attention the other evening. I checked with google security and did these verification things, but it claims that everything is fine. To be safe, I removed my blog roll.. I also read that sometimes it can pop up because of links as well.. Hopefully it won't pop up anymore? If it does - please let me know so I can look in to some more!

This week marks my "I'm going to start being extremely busy" time.. I think I have plans for the next five weekends in a row? I'm tired already (kidding - it is going to be awesome!) I'm going to try and at least still update once a week.. I mean, I'll be going out and doing things, so I will have my nails done - it is just to remember to snap photos within the anarchy.. I got this (:

ALSO! Watch for my post tomorrow.. I'm thinking in the am.. oooh ominous - have a great night!!

Squiggly Colourful Ombre Nails

Yeah, I said "squiggly".. I know.. Weird!

I stumbled across some amazing nails on tumblr, I do believe.. I hit my print screen button, as I usually do, so I can save the image later on (I have a program for all my screen shots to be saved for my perusal later on).. Yeah.. Silly Dee! This isn't YOUR computer. Le sigh.

Thankfully my brain had some sort of photographic memory moment and I was able recall the general idea behind the nails.. I apologize to the original poster, if I stumble across your photo again (which I should), I will give credit where credit is due!

These are the nails.. And I received many compliments on them! I used Brucci polish for the green and yellow: the green doesn't have a label, but the yellow is Emmi & Olli Go Bananas, then it is OPI What's With The Cattitude, OPI Ogre The Top Blue (index finger), and OPI Elephantastic Pink, as well as OPI A Grape Fit (middle and ring), then the white is China Glaze White on White.

Now I just want to share two other photos with you all..

I am sure many of you are fans of True Blood - I am as well! We have a group of friends that come over on Sundays so we can all watch it together.. And of course there has to be snacks involved. I found these cupcakes sometime last year, and I think I have made them at least four times now (3 for the True Blood crew and once for a co-workers birthday).. BUT this time I decided to go with the recent fad of adding oreos into the cupcakes..

No word of a lie.. These were the best red velvet True Blood cupcakes I have made to date.. JUST SAYING!

And I thought I would toss in some Ben and Fonze for you all to glance at. It was cage cleaning night the other evening.. I figured these two clowns would behave on the chair.. I was correct, of course, and they looked too cute - enjoy!

Canada Day - Saran Wrap Style

I had said the other day that I would be using the Saran Wrap method again soon.. And I really did mean soon. I figure it was the perfect way to celebrate Canada Day (nail-wise) without over-doing it.. I mean, I'm fairly patriotic as a rule, but sometimes sporting a Maple Leaf on my fingers isn't exactly my style.. ANYways..

See? The love is there with the red and white.. I know I said the next time I did the saran wrap method, I was going to try with three colours.. But, I think I will maybe leave that experiment for tomorrow - today is only about these two colours! So.. How I get to this? Well, allow me to show you.

Start off with the colours of your choice - one as the base, and one as your.. distress-er? And some saran/cling wrap. I take two pieces and ball them up.. You could use more or less.. But I figure two hands, two, er, balls. Yikes.

After your base has COMPLETELY DRIED (you can do these a couple of hours in advance, the night before, or even use some quick dry top coat), slap on a coat of your distress-er colour.

Dab your nail with the saran/cling wrap. You can dab once or twice or even thrice - just dab till your heart is content!

You'll be left with some neat distressed looking nail. Think crackle, but more fun (and less expensive.. Just saying!)

Do the rest of your nails, one by one, and you'll be left with a slight nightmare, but, you can just do your clean-up and be left with some very fun nails!

I really like this method.. It is fun, easy, and leaves you with an interesting look. I really want to go with tri-colour fun next time.. I get tomorrow off as well, so it may be play time! I think this would even look rad with some Sticks n' Stones added in.. Ohhh ideas!

Happy Canada Day to any of my awesome Canadian readers out there - I hope you have a fabulous day! I am going to partake in an outdoor concert later on, and we shall see where that leads in to the night! See you all again soon..
