Jessica Glitterati

Hello everyone!!

A couple of weeks ago, I put in an order with Ninja Polish aka my danger store.. and this polish was a last moment toss in the cart.. I didn't think too much about it. Even when it arrived I was like 'well, it is quite nice' and put it away in the untried drawer.

On Sunday, I needed to paint my nails.. and I figure that since I have to change them a time or three during the week, I should pick simple colours or just glittery goodness. Queue Jessica Glitterati. I looked at it and figured 'well, why not?'.

This polish is an absolute gem!! I received many a-compliments and had people scoping out my nails a few times during its wear. In certain lights/angles, the glitter is gold, or orange, or even green. Yeah. So. Good.

...Right?!

This is 2 coats over a coat of OPI Get In The Expresso Lane.

Sorry about the minor tip wear. Hopefully that isn't too distracting from the loveliness of Glitterati!

I snapped up that polish HERE.

Take care everyone, and I will see you again very soon!!

My Favourite Polish: China Glaze Edition

Hey everyone!

My next set of favourites in this series come from China Glaze aka my largest brand collection. I have 82 (not including glitter) of them, so I figured that picking 20 for my favourites was fair. Here goes.. in no particular order, of course:

Trendsetter - a vomit-esque, Dijon mustard colour with flecks of yellow. Yeah, obviously awesome! Of course this wouldn't be a favourite for everyone, but there is something about this polish and my pale skin tone that I absolutely love.

Rich & Famous - This was another that I owned from almost the very start of my polishing ways. This is actually my third bottle.. because.. well, it is just an incredible pink! It reminds me of double bubble wrappers.. and it is another go-to-for-nail-art pink.. It is also almost perfect with just one coat. What is not to like?

Entourage - This is another gem from the start for me.. Well, top 50 for sure.. It is a fun green with very fine green shimmer. It is one that takes a touch of building, but it is worth it.

With Love - Ok, I know that I just added this to my collection.. but I think I might love it more than Essie Lolipop - and that was my GO TO red for the longest of times. This one is actually perfect in one coat - but I have said it before, and I will say it again: one coat polish freaks me out.

Lemon Fizz - I. Love. This. Polish. x infinity. It is the perfect yellow, as far as I am concerned. It is a nice yellow creme, pale yet noticeable at the same time. I cannot say enough amazing things about it. As you can see - my second bottle is almost done. I have a third in reserves. For safety sake!

Westside Warrior - Dark, army/khaki - wait for the keyword: green. Green is my favourite colour - each and every shade ever, so of course I love a wealth of green polish. This gem fits right in.

Atlantis - I haven't used this polish often, but my sister has quite a bit. Lovely green, turquoise, and gold glittery goodness. Love.

Gaga For Green - A perfect "shade darker than lime".. again, another green. The name of this green describes how I feel about all greens.

Re-Fresh Mint - A-hem.. I am sensing a wee bit of a trend here. A spectrum of different greens. This is a lovely light mint green. And it is perfect.

OMG - Holographic silver. I used to use this bad boy constantly. I have since started to hold back as it isn't going to be easy to obtain another bottle. This upsets me.

Electric Pineapple - A yellow-lime green.. I feel the name is basically perfect for it. It is a slightly "darker" version of Who The Shrek Are You? - which is probably why I absolutely adore it.

Sweet Hook - A perfect lilac colour.. Pastel.. Gorgeous.. Love.

Peachy Keen - This was a shade I bought and then afterwards was like 'ugh, why'. THEN I started to use it and realized that I absolutely love the colour with my skin tone. I do get many compliments on this shade. Judging by the name - it is a peach colour - almost a melon.. Quite nice.

Heli-Yum - A delightful light raspberry shade.. Again, pretty much a perfect colour.

Sea Spray - I think I like this polish so much because of the random nail art I did with it on its first use.. Light blue-grey with some shimmer. Pretty!

Foie Gras - I tossed this polish in to the mix because it is a colour that I feel like a year ago I would have been like 'oh, ok, meh', but then I actually use them and they are stunning. I never understood the whole "neutral" thing, and I think I am finally beginning to get it. They are lovely and simple, yet effective.

Zombie Zest - A green polish with the name 'zombie' in it. Of course I was bound to fall madly in love with it.

Midtown Magic - I still maintain that this is one of the "sexiest nail polish" I have ever come across. It is a chocolate purple shade and just incredible. I need to remember to use it more and post about it more often. It is a real stunner.

First Mate - This is a perfect blue. I think it is starting to steal my love away from Essie Mesmerize. This polish is perfectly opaque in a single coat. I have never had any bald patches or streaks while using it either. Love.

Sugar High - A perfect, bright, bubblegum pink polish. What is not to like?

These are my top picks out of my personal China Glaze collection - what are some of yours? I'd love to hear about your faves!!

Ohh, The Weather Outside Is Weather!

...If anyone knows where that quote is from, then you're awesome. And if you don't, well, you're still amazing.. But you should probably see the movie it is from..

Anyways..

Hey everyone!!

Ok. I am maybe a hair early for "winter/holiday/Christmas" themed manis.. BUT.. I was sent an e-mail from Nail Polish Canada to participate in a Holiday Nail Art Challenge. Of course I agreed to it. For the first week, the theme is: Snow.

I knew I wanted to do snowflake nails.. but on what kind of base.. THEN I remembered the nails I wore to Breaking Dawn Part 2 on Friday - and knew they would be perfect. Of course all of you (except for my bff) have no idea what I'm talking about as they were ruined before I could photograph them. Yay for second chances!

On to the nails already, right??

Beautiful, right? I do apologize for my shiny cuticle area. I have been slathering them so often lately - and even after a serious wash BEFORE the photos, they were still le shiny. FORGIVE ME!!

The base idea comes from HERE - and hers is flawless - just sayin'!

Then I watched THIS snowflake tutorial and went from there.

I used China Glaze Sweet Hook as my base, then I sponged on more Sweet Hook, along with China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-Le and Spontaneous. Then there was a quick coat of OPI Pirouette My Whistle, and a very light dusting of OPI Don't Touch My Tutu! I made the snowflakes with a different method (for me - I usually just use polish) - I used acrylic paint. Strange. I am still undecided on how I feel about it. Slap on some top coat and this is what I was left with.

I think it looks quite lovely. I'd almost say exquisite - almost.

If any of you fab readers would like to get in on the action, you can still sign up HERE.

AND if you like what I have shown you.. maybe you could toss me a vote? Or at the very least, go scope out the other participants and toss someone a vote!

Another photo because I started playing with a snowflake font.. And I'm a slight nerd.

That is all for now - see you all again real soon!!

Ascension & Au Champagne

Hello everyone!!

Today I bring you a quick post featuring two absolutely lovely polish: Ninja Polish Ascension & Orly Au Champagne.

This is 2 coats of Au Champagne followed by a single coat of Ascension. This pair is just gorgeous. It is innocent and fun and clean looking. What isn't to like?

I think my polish choices were swayed by the fact that my friend is now engaged and has asked me to be her MOH. I was looking through my "I need to use" polish and saw Ascension. All I could think of was white. Makes sense, right?

It actually works really well for winter.. What do you gems think about it? Do any of you own Ascension - I'd love to see some other colour combos from any of you out there.

I bought my bottle of Ascension HERE.

I bought my bottle of Au Champagne from HERE - but I don't see it up on that site anymore..

Take care until next time!!

Lush Lacquer: Slumber Party, Cruisin 4 a Bruisin, and Snow Globe

Hey everyone!

I received these gems in the mail a couple of weeks ago (I will include links for you to go scope them out and possibly purchase from etsy, where I purchased mine).. and I wanted to use them all in a mani before I posted about any of them. I finally have that task completed.

I think I now have a solid 6 (7?) polish from Lush Lacquer, and I just absolutely love them. I especially like the three I am about to share with you all - so, let's take a little looksie!

We will start with Slumber Party. When I saw THIS post over at Chalkboard Nails, I needed to have this polish so I could wear this combination. And I'm really, really glad I did get my mitts on it.

This polish is a lovely mix of tiny white (matte) circular and square, circular black, circular blue, hex blue, hex purple, and large square pink glitters.

I used two coats of Slumber Party over a coat of Orly Mirror Mirror.. I was going to leave it with one coat (because it did look amazing) - but I wanted more pink square glitter! For some reason that just makes this polish for me. All of the other colours mixed together are swell, but then it is like 'BAM! Pink squares - you're welcome."

I had no trouble applying it either - which is how it usually goes for me and my polish from Lush Lacquer: zero application problems.

Up next is Cruisin 4 a Bruisin - the name alone is awesome - I guess it is pretty great that the polish coincides with the name. When I first opened these gems, I knew I needed to wear Slumber Party immediately, and I told my sister she could wear either this one or Snow Globe, and she went with this one. She painted Essie Mesmerize as her base - now, she said she should have gone with a lighter base - but I thought it still looked quite nifty.

When I went to use it.. I had a minor dilemma: what colour to use as my base? I immediately figured pink.. I thought it would look really 80s-like (I feel I was correct).. Then I was like 'oooh wait, a light blue!'.. When I was collecting a light blue from my shelf, I scoped a yellow and was like 'that could be fun!' I painted each base on a nail wheel, topped them with 2 coats of C4AB and posed a question to my amazing birthday group beauties - and everyone agreed with a colour, or two, or all three. Then I though "ooh, gradient!" but, I wanted to do a gradient right after wearing (aka Friday) and I didn't want to do to two gradients in a row (though there is nothing wrong with that!).. Then it occurred to me: alternate. Duh.

The pink is China Glaze Sugar High, blue is Essie Bikini So Teeny, and the yellow is Sinful Colors Unicorn - all of them topped with 2 coats of C4AB. Fun. 80s-esque.. aka my dream.

Lastly, Snow Globe. Lovely, right? I immediately knew I'd be wearing this over black. It looks amazing. What is not to like? Tiny white glitter, and an array of colourful activity mixed in: hex and squares in red, yellow, blue, purple, pink.. This is 2 coats over China Glaze Liquid Leather.

I loved all of these combos SO much that I made polish earrings out of them.. I took photos, but they all looked rough - I shall try again and edit them in.

I absolutely love these 3 newly acquired Lush Lacquer nail polish gems. Do any of my excellent readers happen to own any LL? Or if you could own any - what would you like to have? I noticed on their etsy page that they have their holiday polish up.. Must. Be. Strong.

Take care until next time everyone!!

My Favourite Polish: Glitter Edition

Hey everyone!

My second edition of the 'My Favourite Polish' series. Today is going to be focused on... GLITTER! Now, to me, my subsection of "glitter" means that I need to put these polish on top of other polish.. Some polish contains glitter with a fairly opaque base and is okay without a base colour first.. so.. that is how I determine whether a polish is a glitter or not.. Yup.

Here are my top 10 favourite glitter polish - in no particular order!

OPI Glow Up Already - I have never actually posted a photo of anything I have done with this gem. How awful! It is a full out glitter gem with mostly greenish-gold toned glitter. And it is wonderful! I did like most of the glitters released in the Burlesque collection - but this one is definitely my favourite!

China Glaze CG In The City - Another polish that I haven't really posted using.. what is going on with me?! This is purple-y and silver-y and exquisite.

OPI Teenage Dream - All right. Another that I didn't post any looks using. WOW! This is making me seem like a complete fraud. I promise that I really do love these glitters! This one is pretty and pink and the name of my favourite Katy Perry song. I need to get to work and post up some manis using these gems, and FAST!

Wet n Wild Back Alley Deals - Purple and fuchsia glitter. Enough said.

Nails Inc Connaught Square -  This is a perfect glitter for galaxy nails! It is 3D and gorgeous! That is all.

OPI Crown Me Already! - Ok. When I think "glitter", I always think of silver glitter. This is the ultimate silver or silver on silver. It was the polish that I based my New Years nails on last year. Very pretty and very silver!

China Glaze Techno - This is another I don't have any posting for.. What have I been doing? Not taking photos for you all. This is AWFUL! Again, silver glitter with holographic silver glitter. It is just very, very pretty! A great addition to my collection.

China Glaze Snow Globe - Aptly named. It is seriously like the snow globe flakies.. perfect for Christmas themed manis or just for the 'something extra' touch to a single polish mani.

Nail Inc Bloomsbury Square - This is the other 'perfect for galaxy nails' glitter. I love it for that reason alone.

OPI Pirouette My Whistle - This is going to sound strange, and I feel weird writing it - but this is a delicate glitter. Two words that shouldn't really go together. I mean, glitter, to me, usually means IN YOUR FACE! But this one is so subdued and innocent. It really is perfection.

That is it for my top 10 glitter polish - what is your favourite glitter polish? Or even your top 10?! I'd love to know!!

My Favourite Polish: OPI Edition

Hey everyone!

I was watching a video by one of my favourite youtubers the other day (MakeupByTiffanyD) and it was her top 20 favourite nail polish (video HERE). As I was watching it.. I thought "this would make a great blog post!". I sat down at my book shelf of polish and started to select 20 polish. Errr.. 20 was more like 50+. Then I figured I could make it a mini-series of posts. YES! Perfect.

I decided to break down mostly by brand name. Then I have some that cannot be broken down by brand.. but as I get to those, I will mix and match and still get all my faves in. I might even have to do an all star post.. we shall see (:

The first grouping I will share with you is OPI. OPI Curry Up, Don't Be Late was one of the first polish I bought when I first started REALLY getting in to nail polish. The brand has always held a special place in my heart. That, and the formula is usually exceptional. These are in no particular order. Also, I decided on 10 OPI because I have 44 in my collection. Half is 22, and half of that is technically 11, but I felt 10 was a better fit. Enjoy!

My Top 10 Favourite OPI Polish:

Metallic 4 Life - I am not sure if this is one of faves because it is awesome, or because it has sentimental value to me. It is an awesome black base with various sized silver glitter, which already makes it amazing. BUT. I was shopping around before my birthday this past year, and I really wanted to buy this gem, but my sister was like 'but don't you have other polish that is similar?' so I sadly put it back. It was always on my mind. Open my gift from her: and there is was. All mine! I appreciate that she knew how badly I wanted it. And, well, I love using it!

A Roll In The Hague - This orange is PERFECT! It is basically opaque in a single coat and it is just stunning. I don't know why, but I really have a thing for orange polish.

Lincoln Park After Dark - I finally picked this gem up a few months ago. Now, while I haven't used it very often (YET), there are some polish that you just know you are going to get a wealth of use out of. This is one of them. A perfect vampy purple. What isn't to like?

Who The Shrek Are You? - My go to nail art green. It is just so bright, yet still kind of that puke-esque green. I have stopped using it as much.. I don't know how easy it would be to obtain another bottle. I must look in to that. I would be lost without it!

Gargantuan Green Grape - This is another polish that I got near the very beginning of my polish endeavours. I think you can probably tell by the amount of polish left. After seeing this photo - I now know I need another bottle. It is a perfect light green without being too minty. I swear that makes sense!

Sapphire In The Snow - I remember the day I bought this gem. I was at a shop called Dutch Growers.. and I was outraged that OPI nail polish was $11.99.. I had 3 picked out.. and I put them all back. Then, right when I went to pay for my two scarves, I told the cashier to wait a moment and dashed back over to the display and snatched up this polish. I had to have it - despite its overpriced price tag. I am forever grateful I did. It is a perfect deep purple-y colour without being "vampy" ala LPAD - or at least in my mind.

Color So Hot It Berns - ahh red polish! My sister was house sitting for a friend, and I was over there one afternoon watching flicks with her.. the friend told her that we were welcome to use a polish or two if we wanted (most of the polish she has, I already have), but then I saw this red and was like 'meh, red' - then I decided to use it and was like 'MUST HAVE!'. It takes a few coats to get opaque and my bottle is pretty runny, but I wouldn't trade it. The colour is perfection. It isn't my favourite red, but it is right up there. Lovely!

Shorts Story - this is my third bottle of Shorts Story. Okay, two and a half. I originally had it as a mini.. used that to the bitter end.. bought a full sized.. used it all up.. and now I have another. I adore pink polish (ok, all polish.. anyways..) but this is my go-to-for-nail-art-pink.. or it was, for a long, long time! It is a sweet girly pink. Just delightful!

No Room For The Blues - this is bottle 3 of NRFTB. It is another perfect for nail art blue. Whenever I need a blue, it is the first name to pop in to my head and 9/10, I end up using it.

Don't Touch My Tutu! - Now, I haven't used this very much.. but.. for a sheer polish, this is absolute perfection. It is innocent and lovely and perfect for glitter sandwiches. I can see myself using this a lot during the winter. It impressed me enough during its first use that it had to be in this list.

Now, I know there are some OPI polish that I have used more than these.. but as of right now - today - these would be the OPI polish that I wouldn't want to be without!

What about you, my amazing reader, what is a favourite OPI polish of yours? Or your top 10?! I'd love to know!!

Cranberry Splash with a touch of Frozen Flame

Hey everyone!

First, a touch of an apology. I'm truly sorry for the minor absence on my part. I have kind of been in some strange "funk" lately. I am still not sure what exactly happened, nor do I want to bore you all with details.. But I think I had a little bit of a shutdown period. BUT. I feel like I'm getting myself all rebooted up.. and I'm ready to join my regular life again aka blogging. I knew there was something really "off" with me when I was wearing the same horribly chipped nail polish for 3 days. Whenever I get a chip, it is immediately off when I return home. Finally, going in to day 4, I was like 'ENOUGH!' and rectified the situation. I did do a nail look that was awesome, but I didn't even photograph it. I will have to do so again soon. It was using some gems that Silver sent to me. Once I use one of the gorgeous polish she sent me (again) - I will do a full post! So.. sometime this week!

Ok. Moving on!

Saturday night.. during one of my study breaks, I decided to cut my nails riiiight off. I decided that after snapping out of my "funk", I should do a proper restart with my nails. Clipped right down. It always makes me really, really happy when I have super short nails! Less chipping.

I didn't know what I wanted to use.. and I didn't really want to not be studying (re: cramming) for too long. Then I remembered that I had a couple of polish in my untried drawer. Snapped up China Glaze Cranberry Splash and Rainbow Honey Frozen Flame. Yes and yes.

Side note: My hands are EXTREMELY dry these days. I put lotion on at least 10 times a day, cuticle butter, and I even wear my special medicated (eczema steroid cream) at night, with gloves, and they are still unbelievably dry. I am probably dehydrated. I so apologize for that. GROSS!

I really wish I would have snapped a photo of Cranberry Splash on its own. It is exceptionally gorgeous. I have been lovvvving red polish lately. I am glad I got this and With Love from the Holiday 2012 collection. They both make my smile.

I used two coats of Cranberry Splash (even though one coat would have worked just as well) and followed that up with two coats of Frozen Flame. Love. They are very festive feeling. I like it.

I got China Glaze Cranberry Splash HERE & Rainbow Honey Frozen Flame HERE.

Talk to you all again soon!!
