31DC2013 - 03 - Yellow + One Gross Nail Break

Hey everyone..

So, I do my challenge day nails a few days in advance - especially at the start.. because the start fell on a long weekend when I had plans made, it is always nice to have a little lee-way, nice to be a bit ahead in case real life comes to haunt you a bit.. etc.

Well. This post will contain a slightly graphic photo of a severe nail break. I mention this because my "long for me" nails will be gone after this post. I was going back and forth about clipping my nails or not because of this nail break.. In the end, I decided to clip them all off. They can grow back. Right?! Anyways, on to the post.

I decided to bust out a rad new glitter polish that was sitting in my untried bag. I knew I'd base my nails in my favourite yellow polish, top it with the glitter, and life would be good. I don't know what is with me and glitter polish lately, but no matter what I do, how long I wait, etc, I keep getting little bubbles show up. UGH. Oh well, such is life.

This is Candy Lacquer Citrus Smoothie over China Glaze Lemon Fizz.. and bubbles. Life ruiners.

And.. the nail break..

Thankfully it isn't on my "photo hand", and now it doesn't hurt.. but for the first 3 days? OUCH!!

How did I do this, you ask.. well.. I went to open a window.. I did not notice that the stick was in the ledge.. I went to slide it open, and I heard this perfect little 'cracking' sound. You all know that the little 'cracking' sound is never a good thing.. I didn't even want to look. But I did. A nice crack basically through the middle of my nail. The worse part? It wouldn't come off. I had to wiggle my nail off. Sigh. That was a traumatic night. My poor ring finger had the shakes for the next day.. Good times.

Well, see you all again tomorrow!!

Dry Marble Technique

Hey everyone! Yes.. Dry marble technique.. well.. technically I am water marbling, but allowing the polish to "dry" on the water.. then using it as a nail decal. Does that sound confusing? It might. But. I think this will be my next video. It is actually a lot of fun to do. And while I think this first attempt is grand, it could be better. I used: China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat Sally Hansen Bubblegum Pink Sally Hansen  Babe Blue Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow Water Dotting Tool Bowl Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat I will probably film a video for this within the next week - so I will post up that gem soon. Or, there are probably a wealth online for you to look up in the mean time. Super fun technique without all the hassle of legit water marbling. See you all again soon!

Canada Day - Saran Wrap Style

I had said the other day that I would be using the Saran Wrap method again soon.. And I really did mean soon. I figure it was the perfect way to celebrate Canada Day (nail-wise) without over-doing it.. I mean, I'm fairly patriotic as a rule, but sometimes sporting a Maple Leaf on my fingers isn't exactly my style.. ANYways.. See? The love is there with the red and white.. I know I said the next time I did the saran wrap method, I was going to try with three colours.. But, I think I will maybe leave that experiment for tomorrow - today is only about these two colours! So.. How I get to this? Well, allow me to show you. Start off with the colours of your choice - one as the base, and one as your.. distress-er? And some saran/cling wrap. I take two pieces and ball them up.. You could use more or less.. But I figure two hands, two, er, balls. Yikes. After your base has COMPLETELY DRIED (you can do these a couple of hours in advance, the night before, or even use some

Splatter Floral Nails

Hey everyone! Last night, after I did these nails and when I went to bed - I was quite pleased with my nails. When I woke up this morning, though, I wasn't overly crazy about them. I thought of a few things I could change so that I would really like them.. I am very tempted to take how I want them to look and recreate them before work.. I might just have to do it. Anyways! Really, there is nothing wrong with them.. I just sort of find them.. boring? Ah well! I used: Lime Crime Milky Ways China Glaze White On White OPI My Favourite Ornament China Glaze Highlight Of My Summer China Glaze Sweet Hook OPI Mod About You Formula X For Sephora Infatuated Orly Liquid Vinyl China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat I made the roses with a "main" colour and white, then I did the details with the "main" colour and black mixed together. Again, I don't dislike these bad boys.. I am just not amazed by them! Also.. did you
