Dotticure Featuring Baker Street

Hey there!

This mani was based completely on a drool-worthy photo from www.polishedprescription.com - and I couldn't be happier to recreate it using one of my hands down tops polish: Nails Inc Baker Street.

I received so many comments (compliments?) on this gem look. I also had two ladies at the clinic I work at, ask me if they were jamberry.. I had no idea what that meant.. must-look-up.. ahh, nail wraps. Awe, well, that was nice of them. That is what I assumed. Then, I had a bunch ask if they were acrylic, where I got them done, etc. When the various ladies found out they were my own nails, and that I did them myself, and no, they weren't stickers - they were astonished. I love those looks. How can something so simple evoke so many feels? Oh, right, because the colours are gorgeous together. Duh.

I used:

  • China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat (side note: I'm sorry baby, I will never stray from your exquisite base coat'ing skills again!!)
  • Nails Inc Baker Street
  • China Glaze Bottoms Up
  • China Glaze Rich & Famous
  • Dotting Tool
  • G&G HK Girl Top Coat
After my nightmare-ish chipping issues, I have swapped back to my holy grail base coat. Just a real treat! This colour combo is just.. everything. That is all.

Have a swell day -- see you all again real soon!

This Reminds Me Of My Best Friend

Hey everyone!

I am not sure if I am just a really strange person.. I mean, ok, I know I am - but maybe this has happened to someone else: does your mani ever remind you of a person in your life? or just a person in general? This particular mani happened to remind me of my best friend. I still have not pinpointed as to why I felt this way.. buuut.. it happened!

Anyways. The best of this whole situation.. when I sent her a text to tell her, she wasn't like 'ew, weirdo' or 'freak' or any other strange label.. though I would have accept them as compliments, but I digress.. RIGHT! Ok, no, she said 'that is so endearing'. Ah. She gets me! And this is why I have loved her since she first spoke to me in kindergarten (I was the new kid in class..) - and we have been talking ever since. Man. Gord, if you're reading this: you're the bee's knees, and the cat's pajamas!

I just adore this combo. I used:

I could never choose just one polish as my favourite - that is basically impossible - but, Load is definitely in my tops! I just adore it.. right down to its freaky fun name!

Then top it with some gold and rose gold/bronze shard glitter activity? Take my money!! Oh, right, they already have.. well.. this is awkward.

How about a photo of Load all on its own? Guh. I am not worthy!

Siiiigh. Well. That is all for today! See you all again real soon.

Matte Black, Gold, and Leopard

Hey everyone!

One of the many, many things I adore about my sister is her sending me screenshots of nails I should do - especially when she is working night shifts.. I wake up to random texts and then random images. Real day makers!

She sent me an image the other week.. and I was like 'hey.. yeah.. I rarely do matte nails - why not?!' and I was not disappointed!

I followed the watermark to the facebook page of Tweetii Sweetii - and found some rad gems along the way! A very talented gal - go check out her FB page HERE

And this is my take. I kind of really like the concept.. minus the fact that I could not make a straight line to save my life. BUT! Besides that, I quite enjoy looking at these beauts!

I used:

Also.. side note: I have decided that the G&G combo is not cutting it.. it sounds like the culprit is the base coat. My nail polish has been chipping within 24 hours since switching to this combo. I really enjoy painting my nails, but every day seems a bit excessive (for me, anyways).

And a side, side note: if I can remember which website I bought my gem polish from, I will provide linkage. For at least my first post using it. Just saying!

All righty.. well.. that wraps up this post!

See you all again soon!!

Super Bright Leopard

Hey everyone!

Today I bring you a simple, yet super effective, leopard mani. I absolutely loved this - minus 1 little, baby thing: I had a chip on my index nail.. after 1 day of wear.. and it just sort of flaked off. I am currently testing out a new base and top coat.. and.. this was not the start I was expecting. Hopefully the next go will be better!

Also, these nails, though I was super jazzed about them - so many people thought that my nails were fake, that they were stickers, or that there was no way possible that I did them myself. Sigh. You cannot win them all. Yes, these are my real nails, no stickers, or stamping, I did them with a dotting tool and a pencil! Whatever. Still a huge fan of them!

Actually, I suppose I should take all of that as compliments, but when you hear it so often, it kind of drags on your soul a wee bit. Rambling. Sorry!

I used:

  • HK Girl Stuck On Blu base coat
  • China Glaze Grass Is Lime Greener
  • China Glaze Strike A Rose
  • OPI A Roll In The Hague
  • Orly Liquid Vinyl
  • Dotting Tool
  • Mechanical Pencil
  • HK Girl Fast Drying & Super Shiny Top Coat

That is all for today! See you again soon!!

Ohhh! Wait.. I did snap a photo of my current untried polish.. with this mani, I knocked two out of the running..

Atlantis Splatter Nails

Hey everyone!

The other day, whilst perusing pinterest, I stumbled upon a photo of splatter nails done by Chalkboard Nails. While I was starring at the little photo, I was like 'a sparkly based splatter nail! Great idea!' then I went to the post, and here I was thinking it was sparkly China Glaze Atlantis as the base.. nah, it was not.. BUT! It definitely put the idea in my head to use Atlantis as a base for a splatter nail.. and so it was.

Honestly, at first, I hated them.. I felt that the colours didn't pop enough, or maybe I should have used a lighter coloured sparkly base.. just blah feels. Then.. after 2 days of wearing them and allowing the sun to catch them, yeah, I like them!

I used:

  • China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat
  • China Glaze Atlantis
  • China Glaze Spontaneous
  • China Glaze Liquid Leather
  • China Glaze Midnight Kiss
  • A Straw
  • Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

I also inadvertently used all China Glaze polish.. rad! I love China Glaze, and it shows!!

That is all for meow - see you all again real soon!

Pastel, Dots + Flowers

Hey everyone!

I went seeking advice via my FB page the other day aka a week or two ago (yikes!) and asked for suggestions. A local pal suggested spring nails, as in pastels and flowers as we started to see spring-ish weather at the time.. then it snowed for a few more days.. anyways, that is besides the point.

I took her suggestion and did pastel nails, dots, and then flowers - I used a different technique this time.. not sure if I am totally jazzed about the results - I think I will want to tweak that method a touch or three.

I used:

  • China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat
  • OPI What's With The Cattitude?
  • Daisy Nail Lacquer Sachet Pink
  • China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint
  • China Glaze Lemon Fizz
  • China Glaze Sweet Hook
  • China Glaze Sunday Funday
  • OPI Ogre-The-Top Blue
  • China Glaze White on White
  • OPI Jade Is The New Black
  • China Glaze Gaga For Green
  • Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

PHEW! Oh, right, I also used a dotting tool annnnd a tiny brush. I did really love this idea.. but my flowers and leaves aren't desirable in my eyes. I will get it right next time.. right?!

Take care until next time!!

I'm Truly Sorry, But I Mustache

Hey everyone!

About one month ago I was contacted by a rep from Born Pretty asking if I would like to pick a couple of items for review. Um, duh, yes! I love Born Pretty nail goodies! It also worked out perfectly because I have desperately wanted to try nail decals again (I say again because I remember nail decals as a kid.. and how rad they were - so they can only be more rad as an adult.. that is how things work.. right??)

Last week, my goodies arrived - and it was time to play!

I was suuuuuper excited about all items, but one in particular screamed out to me, that, and my sister requested I sport these on my nails for her birthday. Did & done!

I also really wanted to try out the dry brush technique ala Chalkboard Nails (minus the distressed black polish activity)

What I did first was paint my nails a base colour, and in this case, it was white (Formula X for Sephora white Matter), then I went in with various polish using the dry brush technique (you basically brush your, uh, brush, against the polish rim so that you have next to no polish left on the brush, then just swipe at random on your nail).

I am so pleased with the polish I chose to use; I feel I have a complete 80s vibe going on with these nails and that thrills me more than anyone could ever really know!

I used all Girly Bits polish: Arctic Sunrise (blue), Sailors Delight (orange), Jelly Shoes (pink), Glo Worm (green), Banana Hammock (yellow).

After they dried, I grabbed a cup of water and cut up my decals. The set I received had 3 different sizes. The large size I used on my thumb, the small size I used on my index, middle, and pinky fingers, and the medium size was used on my ring finger.

You remove the protective film, submerge the decal in water for 10-20 seconds, and then apply it to your nail. The really awesome thing about these is that they don't immediately set - so in an instance where it isn't placed quite how you wanted it to be, you can move it a bit.. I mean.. not that I had any trouble.. Ok! Dangit! I had to manipulate the decal on my index finger a lot to get it just right. Don't tell anyone though, I am supposed to be good at these things.

Once you have it placed and all is right with the world, you can dab off any excess H2O, and apply your top coat. The instructions say to use a blow dryer as well - I skipped this step and everything turned out all right.

I absolutely loved the results.. and while I am someone that loves freehanding, this is an amazing way to take your painted nails into nail art territory - and who doesn't love going there??

The set I received is available from Born Pretty in the nail art section HERE - and they are .99! If that isn't rad enough, you can also use my special little code "AHB10" and save yourself an additional 10%. Plus, they have a wealth of other fun nail goodies for your use! Kind of rad.. and dangerous, all at the same time!

Thanks for checking out this post - see you all again reaaaaal soon!!
